Interior Shutters Add Beauty and Tradition to Your Home
Just like there?s more than one-way to skin a cat, there?s also more than one-way to decorate a window. The sad fact is that most people just think of the everyday drape or curtain because they?re often ready-made and easily hung.
Both window coverings and window dressings serve different purposes and add to the overall look of the d?cor, though they?re often looked upon as one in the same. Admittedly to the untrained eye in decorating, a shade or blind that blocks out light and provides privacy may seem like a complete window treatment. These can include the windows blinds or shades, but their primary purpose is light management and privacy.
But now when we get into window dressing, this is what creates the unique look of the window and creates the atmosphere of the room. Usually a curtain or valance is the decoration on top of the shade.
Interior shutters supply you with a little bit of both ? function and decoration. Interior shutters block out light, and even act as extra insulation for the window, but they?re are also very decorative. The shutters come in a variety of materials including wood and PVC, yet act exactly as metal or wooden windows blinds would.
They are however different in purpose from exterior shutters. Originally having the purpose of protecting a home?s windows from the high winds of hurricanes, or the cold air of a storm, most exterior shutters are now purely decorative in nature.
How do you install shutters?
It?s really not quite as hard as it may seem, and if you?re handy in the slightest bit you can pretty much easily master this task. It?s definitely a do-it-yourself project that can be done in very little time and with some basic tools.
An interior mount ? that is one that is inside of a window box ? then you?re all set with secure 2×4 studs to firmly hold the shutters screws.
You?ll more than likely have to use drywall anchors to hang the shutters to make sure they remain stable, and they will be hung on the exterior of the window frame. Your usual hinge can be used to hang the shutter and are to be screwed into place first. The shutter then slips into the grooves of one side of hinge and a pin holds it all in place.
Before installing your hinges it?s best to do any priming or painting at this point. This way you can easily finish the shutter with little or no mess inside the house. You can use any type of everyday dust rag to clean your shutters. If you?re not one who wants to repaint often, the vinyl shutters are a best for you. They can simply be cleaned with warm, soapy water every now and again, in order to remove dust or dirt.
Interior shutters add a warm, conventional feel to any home. Including them in your home design will bid compliments from friends, family, and passers by.
